Today seems like a fitting occasion to celebrate one of this summer’s most special holidays–National Banana Split Day. As one of the nation’s most iconic desserts, the banana split has come a long way since its inception in 1904. Invented by David Evans Strickler during his pharmacy apprenticeship at Tassel Pharmacy, the original banana split featured a scoop of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream and was layered with chocolate and strawberry sauce, topped with nuts, whipped cream and a single cherry on the top. Now that sounds like banana split we all know and love! Word of mouth spread throughout the area and eventually to across the nation

A banana split is described as a banana sliced down the middle and served with three scoops of ice cream and various fruits, candies and sauces. It’s traditionally served in a long-shaped boat dish With so many different combination you can create, what’s not to love about this classic dessert? No wonder it has its own holiday! To commemorate this joyous day, here are a few simple ideas for putting together your own banana split to enjoy.
